Duddon Canoe Club Coniston Race Sunday 10th May 2009 This is a fun event run by the club ,so even if you do not intend to race come and give your support and have a paddle locally , refreshments will be available and the event will be supported by UK canoes who will be bringing some demo kayaks for anyone to use free . (Grid Ref SD310 952) Distance Long Race 7.5km Machell Coppice to Peel Island and back. Short Race 2.1 Km from Machell Coppice to Fir Island and back. Classes Touring Open Canoe Doubles+Singles Touring Sea Kayaks Racing Kayaks-including Racing Sea Kayaks, K1 or Wavehopper General purpose kayak (long race) Junior Lightnings/General purpose (short race) Prizes . Youth classes depending on entries. (A fun, parent and child event, so please bring the family). Entry Fee £5 per kayak or £8 per canoe and £3 for single class junior. Register at Machell Coppice between 10am and 11.30am. Start is at 12 noon. Note There are no toilets at Machell Coppice. This is an open water race and conditions can be testing. Spray decks are compulsory for all kayaks, and all competitors must wear buoyancy aids. Courses may change on the day due to bad weather. All competitors are responsible for their own safety, though safety boats will be on standby. You can camp at Coniston Hall Campsite (015394 41223) situated opposite Machell Coppice.
