A great local late afternoon / evening day paddle for newcomers and others more experienced in the sport. If you sign up for this event you get free entry to the prior Allonby morning paddle event (SKE7) on 28th of April - so you can experience this beautiful coast at both ends of the day!
We will meet at 16h15 to be on the water at 17h00 as High Water will be around 19h00. Meeting point is the free carpark on the front at GR NY07934221.
The village has public toilets, several pubs and cafes, a Fish & Chip shop and the famous Allonby Ice Cream Shop. There is a camp site at Spring Lea Leisure Centre if you want to camp over.
Trip plans will depend on the weather conditions, and the capabilities of the group(s). We may divide up if it makes sense to do so. This is likely to be an evening paddle up towards Mawbray and Silloth, arriving back in Allonby around 21h00. Large flocks of wading birds, including oystercatchers and ring plovers are guaranteed. Spectacular sunset by special request.....
This event is not a coaching course but you will be safely guided by experienced and qualified sea kayak leaders. Our main objectives of the day are to bring likeminded sea paddlers together, share experiences and make the contacts necessary for further trips. For those with less experience this is an opportunity for you to be guided safely in a coastal area you may not feel is within your reach or current experience.
This event is suitable for paddlers with some kayaking experience, but not necessarily on the sea, as well as others with more experience, who are looking to improve their independence to plan and execute coastal trips. There will be support aimed specifically at newcomers to sea kayaking at this event, but more experienced paddlers are of course also welcome!
This event is open to Cumbrian paddlers – or friends of – with an interest in sea kayaking who would like to extend and develop their skills and experience. Maximum 8 participants.
Using a specific sea kayak is very important, so if you do not have one please borrow or hire one from a club or commercially. Cumbria Canoeists have three sea kayaks and related kit that are available for a small donation.
Personal paddling equipment, adequate gear, a change of clothes, food and drink for each day’s paddle are essential - Paddler Kit lists are available here.
Before you can book on any Cumbria Canoeist's event you must have completed a one time Paddler Registration.
