SKE19 - Sea Kayak Gathering - Filey - 8-9 August 2020
Organiser & Contact for further details:
This is a new venue for “Cumbria Canoeists” to see what the opportunities are like further south on the Yorkshire coast. There are a lot of alternative paddles around Spurn Head and Filey, including surfing opportunities, and some shelter if needed. See Jim Krawiecki's Northern England & IOM - Fifty Great Sea Kayak Voyages Trips 29-31;
Camping will be at Filey Brigg Country Park ; you need to contact the campsite directly to book and pay for your pitch stating that you will be with the Cumbria Canoeists Sea Kayaking group.
We will convene at 09h00 each morning to explain & plan the day trips, shuttles etc. Trip plans will depend on the weather conditions, tides and the capabilities of the group(s). We may divide up if it makes sense to do so.
This trip will include informal coaching, if wanted, and you will be safely guided by experienced and qualified sea kayak leaders. Our main objectives of the trip are to bring like minded sea paddlers together, share experiences and make the contacts necessary for further trips in this area.
We will aim to finish by 16h00 on Sunday to give people time to get home.
This event is open to Cumbrian paddlers – or friends of – with an interest in sea kayaking who would like to extend and develop their skills and experience. This is a Class A/B event is suitable for paddlers with some sea kayaking experience in exposed conditions who are looking to improve their independence to plan and execute coastal trips. It is not suitable for novices. Talk to the organiser if you need to confirm whether your experience and capabilities are sufficient. Maximum 8 participants.
