SKE23 - Sea Kayak Peer Trip - North Brittany - 1-13 September 2020
Organiser & Contact for further details:
Brittany is one of the finest sea kayaking destinations in Europe. The warmer weather and the holiday atmosphere in this location should make for a glorious trip. There is a big choice of options as to what we should paddle.
This is a peer group trip. There will be 2 sea leaders who will ultimately take responsibility for the safety of the group, but the main objective is for a peer trip to make the most of paddling opportunities in the area over the first two weeks of September. This will mainly consist of day trips from camping sites around the North & West Brittany coast, but may also include overnight trips away to the islands if the weather is suitable. Based on the experience of last year a few rest and visit days will be interspersed between blocks of kayaking days. I'll be adding more details on possible trips in the next few months....
Trips will be based on the excellent local guide book, and we will meet up with some of the Breton paddlers we first encountered last year.

If you are coming I suggest you book your ferry early as there are good discounts if you do it before the season starts, the rates should be better than last year as this after 'La Rentrée'.
This event is open to Cumbrian paddlers – or friends of – with an interest in sea kayaking who would like to extend and develop their skills and experience to a foreign trip. This up to Class C event is suitable for paddlers proficient to look after themselves in moderate sea conditions, including faster moving tidal water and races - you should be a competent 3 star or better. Talk to the organiser if you need to confirm whether your experience and capabilities are sufficient. Maximum 8 participants.
Using a specific sea kayak is very important, so if you do not have one please borrow or hire one from a club or commercially. Cumbria Canoeists have three sea kayaks that are available for a small donation. Personal paddling equipment, adequate gear, a change of clothes, food and drink for each day’s paddle are essential - Paddler Kit lists are available here.
Before you can book on any Cumbria Canoeist's event you must have completed a one time Paddler Registration.
Cost: £- as a peer trip there is no booking cost. We may need to prebook some of the camping or accommodation on the islands and in this case the organiser will ask participants to contribute pro-rata. These costs will be payable by BACS to “Cumbria Canoeists” Sort Code 01-08-93 A/C# 14482177. Please add your surname and the event reference as the BACS payment reference to make sure we can track payments.
Although this is a peer trip, because it is organised through the auspices of Cumbria Canoeists, we need to ensure all participants have appropriate liability insurance. So if you are not a member of British Canoeing, you will have to arrange membership equivalent liability insurance cover for the trip (applies to all participants and leaders); Alternatively, we would encourage BC adult membership at £45 or £80 for a couple per annum. We would also recommend that you take out additional personal sport & travel insurance with medical and repatriation cover.
Places are allocated on a "first come first served" basis and the booking status is indicated at the top of the sea kayak event page.
