This is a great opportunity to experience some of our best local coastal paddling – Ideally at St. Bees beach then around the North and South Heads. Ravenglass is a sheltered paddling option if required.
We will meet up at 09:00 hrs on Sunday Morning at the large car park near the RNLI life boat station at St Bees GR NX 118 962. We will have a coastal trip out from St Bees. If the conditions are not suitable we will explore the Ravenglass estuary.
We will convene at 09:00 hrs to explain & plan the day trip, shuttles etc. and aim to be off the water by 16:00 hrs.
There are lots of opportunities to paddle in this area and we will choose day trips and crossings that are suitable to the experience of the groups, the weather and the tides. We may divide up if it makes sense to do so.
This event is suitable for all paddlers except beginners so improvers and above welcome. Maximum 16 participants.
You can attend the paddling session, camping locally or travelling on the day. This event is open to Cumbrian paddlers – or friends of – with an interest in sea kayaking who would like to extend and develop their skills and experience. This trip is not a coaching course but you will be safely guided by experienced and qualified sea kayak leaders who will help you learn new skills.
Using a specific sea kayak is very important, so if you do not have one please borrow or hire one from a club or commercially. Cumbria Canoeists have three sea kayaks that are available for a small donation.
Personal paddling equipment, adequate gear, a change of clothes, food and drink for each day’s paddle are essential - Paddler Kit lists are available here.
Responsibility for camping and cooking each day will be left with the participants, but do not hesitate to ask for any further guidance.
