Some positive points for having a car park at Armathwaite. 1. Safe off road parking for canoe clubs and small groups who are running the river Eden - from Lazonby to Armathwaite or Armathwaite down stream. 2. Prevents congestion on Village roadside with cars 3. Prevents the Armathwaite bridge being cluttered with vehicles and causing an emergency vehicle to be delayed in crossing the bridge in an emergency. 4. Often vehicles - cars and vans - are parked for much of the day on the roadside and can now be parked sensibly in a car park - reducing roadside cluttering. 5. The car park is ideally situated for watersport users to access and egress the river Eden, directly into a car park and not along the footpath onto the bridge, then a pavement or road side to access their parked vehicles. 6. It just makes sense to provide for the welcomed visitors of Armathwaite. 7. Cumbria Canoeists is in partnership with Eden Rivers Trust to create an access/egress point, just below Armathwaite bridge, which will link directly into the car park from the river bank. Having egressed the river at Armathwaite on many occasions I understand the difficulties and dangers associated with the current parking of cars and vans on and near the bridge. The provision of the car park would enable safe egress, remove the danger and remove congestion. Having this facility would also enable us to use local facilities and enjoy this part of the Eden Valley rather than drive off asap to clear the road side.

As a member of Duddon Canoe club, I agree with all the comments, justifying the need for this car park.

Copeland Canoe Club have paddled on this section of the Eden for many years and a car park at the take out would be a huge benefit to paddlers and the local community. Safety would be the overriding importance for the project to go ahead not only for paddlers but walkers and cyclists who also park in the same area. It is also good to see improvements generally assisting people to get out and enjoy the countryside improving their fitness and well being, hopefully this project will spark other initiatives to help access to our waterways and countryside.

This planning application is the best possible solution to egress from the River Eden. It provides off road parking, takes parked cars from the Eden Bridge and allows people to load canoes onto their cars, without having to carry them over the wall as they currently do and risk interfering with traffic crossing the bridge. I have paddled this stretch for over 50 years. Before the current owner of the mill restricted access to the footpath that came onto the road by Mill Brow this was the accepted egress. It was dangerous to park here because of fast moving cars and the number of cars that could be parked her without causing an obstruction was very limited. The current plan is a brilliant solution to a long running problem in the village.
